Eicholtz, in de Leidsestraat, specializes is ‘survival food’ for American and British expats in Amsterdam. Of course at the prices they charge it might be better to safe up the money for a proper shopping trip back home.

Don’t you think it would be better if we know what normalcy bias is?

As defined by wikipedia:

Normalcy Bias is a survival mechanism our brains are equipped with that can place us in grave danger when we’re faced with something traumatic. Simply put, it causes our brains to insist that all is OK. Everything will return to normal. For most of us who have never faced true peril, Normalcy Bias tells us that nothing bad will ever happen. “This is America!,” some people insist when I tell them about the possibility of a deeper Depression or hyperinflation. Incredibly, the most obvious warning signs are ignored.

An example is:

Oncoming hurricanes and similar disasters elicit similar reactions. We simply expect life to go on as it always has, and our brains are wired to accept that and nothing else. A driver attempts to cross a flooded river. Thousands of New Orleans residents faced with Hurricane Katrina refuse to leave the city, and city officials don’t even make an attempt to evacuate them. One survivor from 9/11 tells of going blind as she saw dozens of human bodies hitting the ground outside the Twin Towers. Our brains can accommodate billions of bits of information each day, but apparently, there are some things too terrible to comprehend.

Do you think that way too many Americans are experiencing normalcy bias when they do not believe the obvious, thinking, “This is America, and everything will be alright? That there will be no inflation or another great depression more worse than 1929? That we are in America, and there will be no war? That we aren’t involved in a war even now? That there will be a time when they will be so hungry they will rob and kill for food? That everything will go along as it normally does? That everything will be OK?

Or, even worse, are you experiencing normalcy bias?

Hi, well I want to be a doctor when i grow up but im not sure what kind. Im kindof leaning towards a pediatric oncologist. But im going to do alot of missions and travel, and try to help people. but when im in the U.S I would like to be able to work in a hospital. I want to be a doctor that mabye works in emergency situations. some one who thinks things through in a short time. who works in a viarty of situations and works with children and adults.

When does the campaign start?
