Question by FireCollie: What’s the most effective way to advertise my services?
I have decided to become a private lifeguard and will be selling my services for backyard pool parties, club pool parties, etc. I have 6 years experience and have all the Red Cross certifications. I am even thinking about investing in some equipment like a lifeguard tube, emergency first aid kit, etc. But before I start investing in this I want to make sure it is worth it.
I posted a Craigslist ad and scored 0 for a backyard pool party within a few days. What else can I do to spread the word about my services? Would printing ads and posting them in suburban neighborhoods be effective?

There are a lot of things you can do. Your target is homes and clubhouses, etc. that have pools. Hit those neighborhoods. You can post flyers in grocery stores in more affluent areas. Take flyers to apartment complexes and ask them to post it for you. If you have the smaller neighborhood newspapers or community newsletters, you can place an ad. Go to stores that sell pools and ask them to post a flyer for you. Talk to local health clubs and see if they need lifeguards for private parties. We have a club that does birthday parties for kids at their pool. Check with local Chamber of Commerce and see if they can give you ideas. Be creative.

The ultimate advertising is on a major search engine such as Google.com it will give your business maximum exposure, you dont wanna go for pay per click tho cause its expensive and you drop down once your daily limit is reached preventing further customers, check out http://www.mangosolutions.org/advertising.html they can get you to the top position on google in no time or call them on 07 55534178 for more information.
Another way is to join social networking sites like Twitter, MySpace, Facebook…etc. Create a profile and talk about your experience and skills you have.
The Internet has become the most widely used resource for information these days and more and more people are now realizing the benefits of advertising their products or services online. Aside from the global reach the Internet has, it also offers a variety of advertising options, most of which are inexpensive.

Create referral postcards:
“__________________________ thinks you may be interested in my service . . . . .”
Include 5 or so (already with postage) in a thank you note to each customer you do receive and ask them to refer you directly to their friends. Benefits: word of mouth is still the best tool, it is cost effective, and your clients can refer directly and are more likely to do that as opposed to giving you names directly.
Great idea using Craigslist! I know of a service that will do that kind of advertising for you – putting you on several classified ad websites. They’re called Premiere Ads Online and they are really reasonable – about $15 and you are listed on 5 different classified ad sites for a month. It goes up the more sites you pick to be listed on. So if Craiglist worked that well for you, being out there on a lot of other classified ad websites should help even more! If you want to check them out their site is http://www.premiereadsonline.com . Might be worth looking into for the price.
